Inside Mount vs Outside Mount
When deciding between an inside or outside mount for your roller shades, consider the look, functionality, and space of your windows.
Inside Mount
Installed within the window frame, inside mounts offer a clean, minimalist look that preserves window trim and architectural details. This option may have slight light gaps on the sides and requires precise measurements for a custom fit.
Outside Mount
Mounted on the wall or ceiling, outside mounts provide maximum privacy and light control by covering the entire window frame. They work well for shallow windows, create the illusion of larger windows, and are generally easier to install with more forgiving measurements.

General information on roller window shades to help you make your purchase.
What are Roller Shades?
Roller shades are named for their unique design and operation. A piece of fabric is attached to a tube that rotates, allowing the fabric to roll up and down smoothly. While these shades have been around for decades, modern roller shades offer a wide range of fabrics and styles, enhancing their functionality and aesthetic appeal. Their versatility makes them a popular choice among both designers and homeowners, providing effective light control and privacy options for any room.
Blackout Vs Light-Filtering
All roller shades effectively block light to varying degrees, offering two primary options based on your needs:
Light-Filtering Roller Shades: These shades allow a gentle diffusion of light into the room, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere while reducing glare and maintaining privacy. Select from 1%, 3%, and 5% transparency.
Blackout Roller Shades: Designed to block out most light, these shades are ideal for spaces like bedrooms and media rooms where you want to minimize light exposure. For maximum room darkening, consider blackout fabric or vinyl roller shades.

Lift Options for Roller Shades
Roller shades come with three lift system options to suit your needs: corded, cordless, and motorized.
Corded Roller Shades: These shades feature a looped chain or cord, allowing you to pull the chain hand-over-hand to lower or raise the shade.
Cordless Roller Shades: Designed with child safety in mind, these shades have a hidden spring mechanism in the metal tube. Pulling on the hem releases tension, making it easy to raise and lower the shade.
Motorized Roller Shades: Equipped with a rechargeable battery-powered motor, these shades can be operated via remote control, providing convenient functionality—perfect for hard-to-reach windows.

Additional Options
By default, roller shades include only the fabric on the tube, which means the mounting brackets will be visible, and there will be a small gap at the top since the fabric roll won’t be flush with the window casing. To achieve a more finished look and eliminate this gap, consider upgrading to a cassette valance or fascia to cover the brackets and roller tube.
You can also choose the direction from which the fabric rolls down. The standard roll is recommended for most windows, as it allows the fabric to come off the back of the roll and sit closer to the window, providing better light blocking and a cleaner fit. Opt for a reverse roll if you have window cranks or protruding latches to help navigate these obstacles.
